Kitchen Equipment Needed
To make braised beef short ribs, you’ll need the following kitchen equipment:
- Dutch oven or large, oven-safe pot
- Tongs
- Chef’s knife
- Cutting board
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Aluminum foil
Ingredients
- 4 pounds beef short ribs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 2 bay leaves
Recipe Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Season the short ribs with salt and pepper.
- Heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the short ribs and sear them on all sides until browned, about 8 minutes total. Remove the ribs and set aside.
- Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic to the Dutch oven. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Return the short ribs to the pot. Add the beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves.
- Cover the pot and transfer it to the oven. Cook for 2 ½ to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.
- Remove the pot from the oven and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes before serving.
