Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and core the apples, then cut each one into 8 equal slices.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into individual triangles.
- Place an apple slice at the wide end of each crescent triangle, then roll it up, tucking in the sides as you go. Place the dumplings in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix well.
- Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the apple dumplings in the baking dish.
- In a separate saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 cup of water. Bring this syrup mixture to a boil.
- Pour the syrup over the dumplings and butter mixture in the baking dish. Then, carefully pour the can of Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes or until the dumplings are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve the apple dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
