Instructions:
- Prepare the Chicken:
- Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Place them in the bottom of the crockpot.
- Make the Gravy Mixture:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, dry chicken gravy mix, chicken broth, paprika, and dried thyme or rosemary until well combined. If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can later thicken it with a flour mixture (explained in step 5).
- Combine:
- Pour the gravy mixture over the chicken in the crockpot, ensuring the chicken is well coated.
- Cook:
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
- Thicken the Gravy (Optional):
- About 30 minutes before serving, if you find the gravy too thin and prefer it thicker, mix 2 tablespoons of flour with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl until smooth. Stir this mixture into the crockpot, mixing well. Cover and continue cooking for another 30 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened to your liking.
- Serving:
- Carefully remove the chicken from the crockpot and place it on a serving plate. Stir the gravy well and taste for seasoning, adjusting with more salt and pepper if needed. Pour the gravy over the chicken or serve it on the side.
- Serve with:
- This dish goes wonderfully with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite steamed vegetables.
Tips:
- Chicken Size: If your chicken breasts are particularly large, you might want to cut them in half horizontally to ensure they cook evenly and absorb more gravy flavor.
- Low and Slow: Cooking on low heat is recommended for the most tender results, but if you’re short on time, the high setting can be used as indicated.
- Herbs: Feel free to experiment with different herbs to match your taste preferences or to complement other dishes you’re serving.
Enjoy your crockpot chicken with gravy, a dish that promises comfort in every bite with the ease of slow cooking!
