Crab Dome Recipe

Ingredients for the Crab Dome

For the Crab Filling:

  • 1 lb lump crab meat, picked over for shells
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon hot sauce for a kick

For the Dome Crust:

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade crust)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

How to Make Crab Dome

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, and Parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add in the crab meat, green onions, garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and hot sauce (if using). Gently fold until the crab is well coated and the mixture is combined.

Step 2: Prepare the Crust

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts on a floured surface. You will need enough to cover the dome shape.
  3. If you have a dome mold or a large bowl, place it upside down on a baking sheet and cover it with plastic wrap. This will help form the shape of the dome.

Step 3: Assemble the Dome

  1. Drape one of the pie crusts over the mold, gently pressing it down into the shape. Trim the edges if necessary.
  2. Spoon the crab filling into the crust, packing it in lightly.
  3. Drape the second pie crust over the top of the filling, sealing the edges by crimping them together. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  4. Brush the top of the dome with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is heated through.
  2. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Carefully invert the Crab Dome onto a serving platter. Remove the mold and plastic wrap.
  2. Slice and serve warm, garnished with extra green onions or parsley if desired.

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Dome mold or large bowl
  • Rolling pin

Storage and Reheating Tips

If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the Crab Dome in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15-20 minutes until warmed through. You can also microwave individual portions for quick meals.

Tips for the Best Crab Dome

  • Use fresh crab: Fresh lump crab meat will provide the best flavor, but you can use canned or frozen crab if necessary. Just make sure to drain it well.
  • Season to taste: Adjust the seasonings to suit your preference. Adding herbs like dill or parsley can enhance the flavor.
  • Experiment with cheese: For a different flavor profile, try mixing in other cheeses like cheddar or Gruyère.
