Ingredients for Homemade Chalupas
For the Chalupa Shells:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons shortening or butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Taco Filling:
- 1 pound ground beef (or chicken, or plant-based alternative)
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade taco seasoning)
- 1/2 cup water
Toppings:
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream
- Taco Bell-style Baja sauce or ranch dressing (optional)
- Hot sauce or salsa (optional)
Kitchen Equipment Needed
- Mixing bowl – for making the dough.
