Boil water and pour it into a big container or the tub. Be careful that it becomes hot enough to dissolve the contents and open the towel fibers so that the liquid may soak in thoroughly.
Come up with the mixture: Get the Borax, washing soda, and powdered detergent together and mix them well. You should wait until everything is completely dissolved before adding the towels.
Boil some water and dip the cloths into it. After you’ve soaked them well, toss them around to coat them evenly with the mixture.
The key is to soak for at least four to six hours, preferably all night. To assist remove the dirt and filth embedded in the towels, give them a periodic stir (if you can muster the memory).
The muddy water that drains out is exactly what ordinary washing leaves behind, so you may be surprised by how unclean it is.
To eliminate any residual cleaning chemicals, rinse the towels by washing them in a standard cycle without detergent after soaking.
